Learning Fief France - Part III

Elections

We delayed this topic long enough. Time to talk about elections.

I am already afraid. 😬

There are many rules, but they all make sense. So, my advice to you is... don't memorize the rules. Use common sense.

For example, we can't vote for a bishop until all cities of that bishopric can vote. And, of course, existing bishops also have a say about who should be the bishop of a certain region. Right?

Yeah, that makes sense.

See? Now the Pope. Who elects the Pope?

Bishops?

Exactly! Also, cardinals  , which are "upgraded bishops". But cardinals are not elected. You upgrade bishops using a card  or buying the title
 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
... yeah... that kind of thing really happened!

Next, let's vote for King.

But wait, Kings are not elected! 🤔

Sometimes they were. The Holy Roman Empire (~1270) was made of dozens of baronies, bishoprics, fiefdoms, counties, and kingdoms. It was ruled by an elected Emperor, which required the Pope's blessing. One of such Emperors was Frederick II (1194-1250).

 Boring.... 🥱

😆

So, the King is elected by fiefdom kings (there are 8 on the map), bishops, cardinals and the pope. Basically, everyone with a title can vote.

So King is like a president?

Not really. After elected, the King passes the crown to his first son on the queen's family board.

OK, like a normal King thing. If he doesn't have a son?

The Queen rules  until she has a son on the queen'ss family board, who will become the King.

So... wait a minute! A player has the King. The King dies, but the son is born to the other player's family??

Yeah!

That can be a problem, no? If you marry the wrong Queen?

Absolutely, just like in real life. 🤣

You will sleep on the sofa tonight, Philippe II 😡

It wasn't about you, baby! 💕You are the trebuchetin the siege of my heart. 💓

Awww...😙

OK, you were right! It's just common sense! Next rule?

There are some few other rules, but this is 90%. You are ready now!

Now come here, Philippe II... 💕
